If I could give zero stars, I would. Renting from Geoffrey Corby (1014 Catherine) has been an absolute nightmare, and I’m writing this review to warn others—do not rent here unless you want to deal with horrible living conditions and an unprofessional slumlord.
1. Deteriorating Condition of the Property:
From the moment I moved in, the place was already in terrible condition, and it’s only gotten worse. Here are some of the major issues I’ve dealt with:
• Leaking ceilings that have never been fixed, no matter how many times I reported it.
• Broken appliances (refrigerator stopped working), and the landlord refuses to replace or repair them.
• The walls are crumbling, with cracks everywhere and peeling paint. Floors are sinking/rising.
• The plumbing is a disaster.Due to broken pipes, and the landlord is always slow to respond.
• Pests and rodents—no matter how clean I kept the place.
2. Horrible Landlord:
The landlord, Geoffrey Corbyn, is without a doubt the worst I’ve ever dealt with. They are:
• Incredibly unresponsive: It takes weeks to get any response, and when they finally do, it’s always an excuse or delay.
• Neglectful: Multiple tenants (myself included) have raised serious concerns about the safety and habitability of the building, but the landlord simply doesn’t care. There’s never any follow-up.
• Evicting tenants without cause: This landlord is known for unjust evictions. I, along with several other tenants, have been threatened with eviction for no valid reason. Instead of following proper legal procedures, they try to push people out with intimidation and harassment. They even try to charge outrageous fees for “damages” that don’t exist or pre-existing.
3. Overcharging for What You Get:
For the high rent I was paying, I expected at least basic livable conditions, but instead, I got a slum-like apartment with no upkeep and a landlord who doesn’t care. They’ll happily collect your rent but refuse to put any money into maintaining the property.
In Summary:
Avoid this place at all costs. The landlord is running a slum, the apartments are in disrepair, and you’ll be living in constant stress wondering when the landlord will try to evict you for no reason. Don’t waste your time or money here—there are much better places to live where tenants are treated with respect and basic repairs are actually done.
